First family gets set to build a future at Highland Walloon

25 March 2026

There’s something special about being among the very first to call a new community home. For one lucky family, that journey is about to begin at Highland Walloon.

Currently renting in South Ripley, Anne and Daniel Horrigan have now officially settled on their 600sqm corner block at Highland Walloon and are preparing to start construction on their new home with Burbank Homes.

The couple were among more than 100 buyers to settle on their land at Highland Walloon this month, marking an exciting milestone for the new community.

Anne and Daniel, who previously built in Townsville, moved to Southeast Queensland in 2021 and have been renting for the past five years. When it came time to build again, they were searching for space, affordability, and a family-friendly environment.

Highland Walloon offered exactly that. Their new single-storey home will include four bedrooms, two bathrooms and – importantly for Queensland summers – a pool.

With colour selections finalised and plans ready to go, construction is expected to commence within weeks, making the Horrigans one of the first families to start building in the community.

For Anne, who works in marketing for Education Queensland, and Daniel, a Queensland police officer, the move is also about lifestyle and schooling for daughters Thea, 8, Alice, 4, and one-year-old Mila. The girls will all eventually attend Walloon State School, which proudly blends heritage and heart with contemporary learning.

The family is over the moon to find somewhere that ticks all the boxes.

“We’d been looking around the Springfield and South Ripley areas for a while, but the blocks were much smaller and a lot more expensive,” Anne said.

“With three girls, we really wanted more space and a proper backyard.

“Wallon State School is a smaller, nature-based school with around 300 students, so we are very happy about that.”

As Highland Walloon begins to take shape, the Horrigan family represents the start of something new – families planting roots, children making friends and a community coming to life from the ground up.

“It’s exciting to know that we will be among the first residents to move in,” said Anne.

“It feels like we’re at the very beginning of something special. We’ll get to watch the whole community grow around us.

Lennium Development Manager Ian Worthington said the settlement of the first blocks marked an important milestone.

“Seeing our first purchasers settle and prepare to start construction is a defining moment for Highland Walloon,” he said.

“Watching homes move from plans on paper to foundations in the ground is when a community truly begins to come to life. It will be great to see families take that next step and start.
