Lennium Group is helping shape a new approach to community safety in Waraba, with its Lilywood Landings community becoming the first residential development to partner with City of Moreton Bay on an innovative CCTV infrastructure initiative.
The partnership model sees Council and developers work together to deliver CCTV infrastructure in new residential communities, helping ensure public safety measures are established early as neighbourhoods grow.
The initiative began when Lennium Group approached City of Moreton Bay to explore a new way of delivering CCTV infrastructure in emerging residential areas. Lilywood Landings became the first community to partner with Council under the model, with the approach now expanding across Waraba and delivering 15 new CCTV cameras throughout the growing community.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the partnership would help create safe, connected and resilient communities from day one.
“Residents deserve to feel secure in their own homes and in public spaces, which is why Council is making CCTV a priority across the City, including in our newest housing areas,” he said.
“By working with developers to share the cost of providing CCTV, we can ensure public safety infrastructure is installed at the earliest opportunity.”
For Lennium Group, community safety has been a priority at Lilywood Landings since the earliest stages of development.
State-of-the-art security cameras have been operating throughout the estate since construction of the first homes commenced, providing an added layer of reassurance for residents and helping establish a safe environment as the community continues to grow.
The new cameras include advanced licence plate recognition technology that can automatically identify vehicles of interest and provide real-time alerts to the Queensland Police Service when required. The technology is designed to support police investigations and help enhance safety across the community.
Lennium Group Development Director Ian Worthington said community safety should be considered alongside roads, parks and other essential infrastructure from the very beginning of a development.
“When we started planning Lilywood Landings, we wanted to ensure residents could enjoy peace of mind from the moment they moved into the community,” he said.
“That’s why we invested in security cameras early and approached Council about how we could work together to expand that approach into the wider public realm.”
Ian said Lennium Group welcomed Council’s decision to formalise the partnership model.
“It’s a great example of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together with the same goal in mind,” he said.
“As Waraba continues to grow into one of Southeast Queensland’s newest cities, initiatives like this help create a community where people feel safe, connected and proud to call home.”
Waraba is planned to eventually accommodate around 70,000 residents, with new schools, parks, employment precincts, shopping and community facilities all forming part of the city’s long-term vision.
